About
I utilize a method of Socratic questioning that is designed to enhance a collaborative relationship between us. The ultimate goal is for my clients to gain more knowledge about self and others, accept their strengths and limitations, and learn to regulate their desires and emotions.
In life, without realizing it, we have predisposed notions and beliefs about things that affect how we behave as individuals. Imagine how much can be resolved if communication was more clear as a majority of issues discussed in therapy typically derive from a miscommunication, lack there of, or both.
The reason I choose to utilize the Socratic Method of Therapy is because Socrates sought the meaning of major issues, such as beauty, goodness, or courage. As related to counseling and psychotherapy, universal definitions can provide a basis for broad issues in treatment. However, treatment is only as effective as you allow it to be. The information gathering, assessing, and treatment portion will be conducted by me, but through the use of Socratic questioning. Because this information can only be provided by you, that means, you will resolve your own issues with my guidance. The unraveling and identifying of the core issue is what makes the Socratic method so useful and why I prefer it over any other type of therapy. Socratic Therapy is designed to create a dialogue that can explore the meaning of various behavior labels (e.g., an “aggressive” child), evaluative standards (e.g., a “good” marriage), and abstract qualities (e.g., “true friendship”). In session, therapists and clients can discuss general definitions, specific examples, and potential limitations of current views. Limited or misguided definitions are confronted, refuted, and replaced with more useful terminology.
Let's create a dialogue and speak the same language!.
