I believe that we all have innate tools to overcome adversity. I also think that in a therapeutic relationship, it is my job (as a therapist) to be the client’s resource for empowering their strengths and the guide that will help them find the solutions to overcome the overwhelming obstacle that ultimately brought them therapy. Therapy should be a safe place of respect to help the client discover new tools or sharpen those the client already has. Therapy is a joint venture where the client will recognize they have the innate tools for finding solutions, and it is my job (therapist) as part of the client’s team to help the client sharpen those tools for confronting and overcoming stress, anxiety, depression or any obstacle along the way. I strive to form an authentic, genuine relationship with my client. I want the client to have confidence in the wide range of modalities I use and have obtained from various specialized training throughout the years I’ve spent in private and clinical settings. Thus, in the end, once the client’s goals have been achieved, it is my hope the client will feel empowered to tackle the obstacle that brought them to therapy and hopefully apply those tools to all other obstacles that may come their way.
