About

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I am a Certified Criminal Justice Specialist, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). In addition, I'm also Board Certified as a TeleMental Health Counselor and trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I’ve had training in Suicide Prevention and a Gate Keeper trainer, and have worked with different population including college students, veterans with PTSD, and the LGBTQ community.

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and completed my graduate studies in Psychology with a specialization in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern University in FT Lauderdale, FL. Upon completion of my graduate studies I worked at St. Johns Health and Human Services in St. Augustine, FL for 13 years, where I served the mental health, substance abuse, and the criminal offender population. After working in the community mental health arena, I went on to pursue a career in higher education, by providing counseling to students, and teaching several courses in psychology.

I work from a cognitive-behavioral approach to treatment, which focuses on identifying dysfunctional thought patterns that are causing distress, and including a holistic approach to living (body, mind and spirit), which is a great way to improve overall health and well-being to balance life and work. My goal is to empower my clients with sufficient knowledge and skills to manage their distress and personal situation that may be causing a negative impact in their lives. My approach involves a caring, acceptance, non-judgmental and holistic approach, which emphasizes on the physical, mental, spiritual, emotional and person as a whole.
My areas of interest and experience includes, substance abuse, depression, anger management, crisis intervention, trauma, gender identity, relationship issues, anxiety, grief and loss, LGBT community, and working with veterans with PTSD.

Outside of work, I enjoy running and participating in races, I like reading books about history and spending time with my family.
