About
I am Michelle Willman, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I earned my Master of Arts in Art Therapy Counseling in 2007 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I think it is great you have taken a step in your journey to work toward what you are seeking. I believe that everyone has the power within themselves to better their lives, sometimes you may just need some support and guidance in getting there. I am empathetic, genuine, and non-judgmental. I work with evidence-based therapies and will walk with you through a process that provides a platform for you to be increasingly self-empowered in your journey to wellness.
I have 15 years of professional experience in clinical and non-clinical setting. I have experience as an Art Therapist/ Mental Health Counselor, working in setting such as a therapeutic preschool, a psychiatric hospital, a juvenile detention center, a women’s shelter, and private practice. I have experience working with children in the foster care system. In addition, I taught English in South Korea and was a Youth Development Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica to further develop my cultural responsivity. I strongly believe it is essential to continue to educate myself regarding diversity, inclusion, and responsivity to your identity as you define it.
I am passionate about working with those who struggle with depression and anxiety, women’s issues, single parenting, issues of diversity and inclusion, human rights, codependency, pro-social communication, changing non-productive thought patterns, and overall providing support in your lifelong journey to self-actualization. I also love working with those who are introverted, empathic, and highly sensitive. I can support you in fostering the many strengths that are inherent in these personalities, and navigating the challenges that that you may be experiencing at work, school, home, or in social relationships. This list is not all inclusive and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any other issues or concerns. Thanks for your time and I hope you find what you are looking for.
