Michelle has more than 25 years of experience working with adults who suffer from substance use disorders, mental health issues, and co-occurring physical health problems, especially chronic pain. Her background includes work in residential and outpatient addiction treatment programs, primary care clinics, and specialty pain management clinics. She worked intensively with addicted health professionals in a residential treatment setting for 10 years and has an understanding of needs specific to that population as well. She is experienced in individual, group, and family therapy within those settings. Michelle believes that the foundation for change within therapy lies in a trusting therapeutic relationship; that honest, respectful communication is an important tool in the process; and that the client’s personal goals and individual personality should determine which approach or approaches will be most effective. Michelle makes use of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Skills training, mindfulness, and other modalities in helping clients to move toward the outcomes they desire.
