Hello! My name is Michael Coyne. I am a counselor in the State of Minnesota with 7 years of fully licensed practice, and I have been working in the field for over 12 years. I have experience in a variety of settings working with people from diverse backgrounds and different walks of life. I have worked with people who are affluent, as well as people who are homeless. I have worked with people in the midst of major life changes, as well as people who are wrestling with the past, or concerned about the future. I have worked with people who know exactly what they want to change, and I have also worked with people who feel unsure of what to do to move forward in life. Within these various settings, I have frequently received feedback from clients such as, "I feel comfortable talking with you," and "you ask the right questions, at the right time." My experience includes working with people who are experiencing issues such as persistently low mood, increased anxiety, relationship difficulties, adjusting to major life changes, or simply feeling listless, lost, or adrift. I also enjoy working with people who are simply looking to enrich their quality of life, expand their potential, and/or gather support for continued growth and change.

While I can offer direction and guidance to clients who are feeling stuck, I also tend to encourage clients to explore and experiment with self-affirmation. My approach is relatively flexible and I often will invite clients to reflect on the counseling process itself, to provide a measure of how the alliance is developing. As many people know, the therapeutic alliance is one of the most important aspects of successful counseling. I feel blessed to be able to develop rapport with the vast majority of people I meet.
