Hello, My name is Michael Buck and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California. Even though my experiences include multiple modalities in Behavioral Health covering all age groups, my passion lies in the area of Substance Use Services/Recovery. I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Perspective to support individual's journeys and I come with 25 plus years in this field. My approach My approach to therapy is from a Generalist Practitioner's Perspective being trained in many therapeutic perspectives, honoring an individual's right to establish and define their personal goals. I have found that the Rogerian, Cognitive Behavioral, and MI (motivational interviewing) Perspectives are compatible and effective with the delivery of Substance Use Services. My focus As previously mentioned, my passion lies supporting individual's wanting to change their relationship with substance use conditions; however, my experiences include but are not limited to working with other behavioral health conditions - anxiety, stress, mood, emotional regulation, obsessive/compulsive - across the age spectrum: child, adolescents, adults and older adults. My communication style My communication style can vary depending on the individual, delivered without judgement, while being supportive through active listening. I've been told that my style is calm and comfortable. My journey to therapy My own personal life experiences have influenced my decision to become a therapist. The difficulties in accessing services, the breaking down of social stigmas, and finding the courage & motivation to improve the quality of one's life all contributed to the decision. I know first hand that people have the capacity to change their lives if provided the support/assistance they need to do so.
