About
Hi! My name is Melissa Morrison, and I am a licensed therapist in North Carolina. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. I graduated from Liberty University with a master’s degree in professional counseling, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision with a focus on trauma. I am licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, and I am a National Certified Counselor. I currently work full-time as an intensive in-home therapist providing Family Centered Treatment. I specialize in working with individuals facing a crisis or who have experienced trauma. I have worked in various mental health settings, including private practice, school-based therapy, group therapy, and community mental health. I have worked with clients ranging from age 3 to adults in my practice. I have worked with clients with many mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, family issues, parenting problems, ADHD, behavior issues, foster care, juvenile justice, legal issues, etc. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, trauma-informed, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where we can collaborate and work at our own individual pace to reach our therapeutic goals. Some techniques commonly used are journaling, modeling, guided imagery, reality therapy, Gestalt empty chair, etc. I will focus on identifying and implementing practical and healthy coping skills. I will also work with you to accommodate your specific needs and meet you where you are at while providing encouragement and support. If you are ready to take that step, I support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!
