About
Hello! My name is Melinda Lewis and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 7 years of experience providing a diverse range of clinical services. I graduated from Fordham University in 2014 with a Master of Social Work. I have worked in a wide range of community-based and clinical settings including women's and children rehabilitation centers, home-based services and institutions of higher education. I have worked with clients that have a diverse range of concerns including anxiety, depression, compassion fatigue, substance abuse, mood instability, impulsivity, domestic violence and trauma.
I currently work as a community-based clinician providing a comprehensive array of home and community-based services to adult and geriatric individuals with mental illness that enables them to live safely in the community by incorporating client-centered therapy. I am an adjunct professor for Purdue University Global instructing within their undergraduate human service program in a variety of courses including prevention and crisis intervention, principles of ethics, introduction to social issues and applied skills. I also work as an independent contractor for a surrogacy agency providing clinical interviews to potential intended parents of various backgrounds that prepares and raises awareness for the various stages of the surrogacy process. Prior to working within these positions, I worked as a Women’s Recovery Specialist providing recovery-based services to women with co-occurring disorders of mental illness and substance abuse. I also have experience as a college counselor working in a community college where I provided academic advising, counseling (crisis intervention, domestic violence, academic, personal), disability services, and community providers/resources referrals to the student population.
My approach to therapy is client-centered, strengths-based and solution-focused. Success ultimately comes from the client within so my application of a client-centered approach assists the client in having control over their course of treatment in developing individualized goals in order to meet diverse needs. I incorporate a strengths-based model simultaneously with a solution-focused approach to enhance the client's coping abilities and well-being . I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist clients in understanding thoughts and/or emotions that may be negatively impacting certain areas of their life and changing those thought patterns to also improve coping skills and quality of life.
I am here to support your unique and diverse range of needs and will empower you to transform your life. I look forward to working with you!
