My name is Melanie Beck, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York. I've been employed as a counselor for almost five years. Right now, I work primarily with teenagers and young adults, but I also have experience working with parents and other family members, so I'm comfortable talking with people of all ages. I do a lot of work with people who are depressed, anxious, stressed, and dealing with trauma. I'm comfortable treating a wide range of issues, and consider myself a pretty flexible counselor. I like to ask for feedback from my clients to make sure that what we're doing together is working for them. I have lots of training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Most of these treatment approaches can be adapted for any individual experiencing emotional issues. I believe that the most important parts of being a therapist are to be non-judgmental and to help a person understand that their experiences and feelings are normal and manageable. I like to use humor when it's appropriate; and most importantly, I want my clients to know that I'm human, too!
