About
I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor and have my training certification as an Addiction and Substance Abuse Counselor in New York with 3 years of professional work experience in an outpatient and private practice setting. My professional background includes working mostly with teens, young adults, and adults. I also have experience working with children and couples.
As a therapist I practice a person-centered approach, meaning I am here to listen and be here for you nonjudgmentally and empathetically. You can count on me to encourage and support you, to meet you where you're at, and help you reach your therapeutic goals.
Issues I specialize in include depression and anxiety, self-esteem & confidence, social anxiety, relationships, and addiction. However, I have also worked with clients who are struggling with anger, school or work, and impulsivity.
Therapeutic techniques I mostly use are cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectic-behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy. CBT techniques include learning to identify unhelpful thought patterns and the relationship between those thoughts, feelings and actions, and ways to help reframe thoughts to improve emotions and develop healthy actions. DBT techniques include learning how to regulate intense emotions, improving relationships, and learning about acceptance and willingness.
Interventions I have used in my practice include providing psychoeducation regarding the issue, challenging unhelpful thoughts, mindfuless techniques, problem solving, trying exposure exercises, and learning new coping skills to name a few. After most sessions I will ask for you to try an exercise at home to practice the skills outside of session, which will help improve consistency and practice (it’s up to you, but I strongly encourage it!).
We don't know each other yet, but I'm proud of you for taking this step. I know it takes courage and I know how hard it can be to open up to someone new. Your mental health is as much a priority as any other part of your life, so why put it off any longer? Thank you for reading, and I hope we can meet soon!
