About
Hello! My name is Megan, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Colorado. I have been working in the mental health field for 13 years, and have worked with individuals with a wide variety of stressors and mental health concerns. I believe asking for help is a show of great strength, and I am so glad you are here.
My experience includes school based counseling in elementary, middle and high schools; individual and group work in the community mental health setting, working with individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental illness; and telephonic clinical case management, working with individuals and families across the spectrum of behavioral health concerns. I am passionate about working with individuals through family issues, blending families, life transitions, fertility struggles, body positivity and self/body image concerns, among many others. In addition to my experience as a counselor, I am also a person - and my personal experience with many of these issues has informed my compassion and drive to help others appropriately.
My approach is person-centered and holistic, meaning that I want to partner with you as the expert in your own story, start from where you are, and tailor our time together to your individual needs. I want to hear your perspective and experience and discover together how it informs your current mindset - and determine together whether or not it is working for you. I work from a place of acceptance, without judgment, and I am sensitive to how your cultural identity, lifestyle, sexuality and gender identity impact your experience. I primarily utilize evidence based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness techniques. You may note that I graduated from Denver Seminary - and while my degree is from a religious institution, I am licensed in professional counseling, and believe that everyone is entitled to their belief or faith. I am open to working with you no matter what your cultural or religious background, and the decision to discuss either with a counselor is yours alone.
I am here now because I recognize that life can be difficult, and I believe firmly that having an advocate on the journey is immensely important. I love getting to partner with folks in their self discovery and growth. Having been working in the virtual/telephonic realm for the past 8 years, now more than ever I have come to value the importance, depth and quality of work that can be done from the comfort of your home. No matter where you are coming from in your decision to seek help now, I would love to be a support to you and have the opportunity to hear your story, and work together toward your goals, whatever they may be.
