About

Often times taking the first step to begin counseling can be the most challenging. And so if you're here, you've taken that step and congratulations, that can be a difficult step. The next one would be to select a provider who you feel would be a good fit. Toward that end, I can share a little about myself so that you can decide whether I may be a good fit for you.

I have been licensed as a professional counselor in CO since 2009, after graduating from the University of Northern Colorado in 2007. I have been working in the field as a case manager, victim advocate, or certified addictions counselor since 2000. I started out by happenstance in the field of substance misuse and domestic violence, after finishing a BA in cultural anthropology and exploring what my potential next steps would be. From there I moved more into mental health and school counseling. More recently, I have worked in the field of medical / behavioral health integrated care and trauma, peri-natal mood disorders and post-partum struggles. I am particularly passionate about women's issues and social justice. I would like to consider myself someone who is sex positive, open and affirming of gender identity issues and LGBTQ issues, and of non-traditional relationships.

Clients who have worked with me have told me that they appreciate my gentle but direct approach. I find person-centered therapy to be a useful starting place because I think as human beings we all have redeeming qualities and we all deserve respect and care. I also often employ strategies from solution focused brief therapy and motivational interviewing to help a person explore their own self efficacy and readiness to change, and find cognitive behavioral therapy often girds most of how I conceptualize a client's issues. As one of my former mentors would say, "What we think about we talk about, and what we talk about we walk about."

When I'm not working, I'm often playing with my two little boys, and or outside enjoying the beauty of Colorado.
