About

Hello, my name is Martin Bordson, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 38 years of experience in the field (24 licensed) and based in San Diego California. I only take 6 to 10 clients at a time so I can do my best work while also enjoying my hobbies like traveling, learning languages, sailing, playing music, and hiking. I immigrated from Mexico after HS, so I'm fully bilingual (Spanish) and bi-cultural, and also, I have traveled the world and speak other languages like Italian and French. I truly enjoy the rewards of my profession, seeing others be happier and improve their lives is wonderful and rewarding. My approach is practical, solution-oriented, and skilled based. My approach My therapeutic approach is eclectic, which means that I use the techniques that better fit your particular situation. I have been trained over the years in many approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, Solution Oriented, Motivational Interviewing, TFT, DBT, Virginia Satir's Model, and so forth. My focus I like to work with clients who are motivated to make positive changes and want a happier and more self-fulfilling life. Young adults wondering about their future or choices in their lives, challenges in relationships or changes, parenting, self-esteem issues, relationships, overcoming mild trauma, anxiety, grief, and mild adjustment depression. Another area of interest is assisting individuals going through the transition of retirement and finding purpose and joy in the later years of their lives. My communication style My style is caring, easygoing, non-judgmental, and respectful. I use mild humor at times to lighten up the situation. But mostly, I try to be fully present and listen actively. I paraphrase to assure that I'm truly listening and understanding the situation. I ask questions for clients to gather insight. I try to not interrupt unless is necessary in order to clarify a point or to better understand a concept.
