Hi! My name is Marla Veit and I am a licensed mental health counselor in the the state of Florida. Thank you for reaching out for help. I know that this can sometimes be the most difficult step. I have worked with clients with many concerns and issues. Some clients had symptoms of depression and anxiety. Some clients have experienced one of many life changes such as divorce, the death of a loved one, job loss, or the diagnosis of a devastating illness and they wanted to talk to a counselor about their emotions and feelings. Some clients had been victims of abuse or trauma.

I became a counselor through a non-traditional route after earning a bachelor's degree in building construction and an early job building nuclear power plants. I raised my children and then I felt drawn to return to school to become a therapist due to life events. My style is warm, open, and informal. My counseling education is complemented by my graduate certificate in holistic health. I integrate positive psychology and mental wellness models with my clients. I like to incorporate breathing exercises, mindfulness, and guided imagery to help manage stress and anxiety. I assign homework assignments that might include worksheets, some form of exercise, music, journaling, or art. I believe mentally healthy people take care of their minds, bodies, and souls. I like to use an egalitarian approach and work as partners or team mates to solve problems. Trauma therapy includes using trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT) which is a story telling process.

The therapeutic journey can be messy, painful, empowering, and fulfilling. Making a connection with the right therapist is the key to success. I took early retirement several years ago and I found I missed helping and working with clients.
