About

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and have worked in counseling focusing on grief for 14 years. In working with grief and loss I have found that this opening provides opportunities to recreate yourself because parts of your world have changed. This experience has helped me grow as a counselor over these years and to understand that we are all here to learn more about ourselves as challenges come into our lives. I have worked with clients with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, job changes, and relationship issues. I have also worked with those who have other challenges such as High Functioning Autism and issues concerning the LGBTQIA community.

My approach to counseling comes from Person Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness techniques. I also have experience Heart Math for Stress and Anxiety where we use tools to regulate breath and heart rate. This skill can help one to be centered in the chaos and help to focus on your healing process. I also used techniques found in Mindfulness that helps to focus on the present moments versus worries about past or future. I believe in the ability within each individual to overcome the challenges that they face during the course of their lives. There should be a genuine relationship between the therapist and the client. This purpose is the creation of a safe place for the client to grow in their awareness of themselves and their environment. I believe in these theories because they center on the individual and their innate power to overcome their personal challenges. All of these theories and techniques give the client the confidence to realize that they do have the power to create their own reality and make positive choices. It is vital that the client feels a connection with their therapist to provide the trust involved in making the necessary changes in themselves.

This process involves a commitment and willingness, on your part, to look with courage at your thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns. In addition to this process there should be a willingness to be open to the possibility that change within yourself is an important part of creating more positive and healthy relationships in your life. This change occurs through the commitment to work in and out of sessions. Together we will set goals for your counseling work and will assess how you feel about your movements towards these goals during the sessions.
