About
Mia Arrington, MSW, LSW is a caring, collaborative Individual & Family Therapist at South Collective Counseling in New Jersey. Mia graduated from Rutgers University with a Master’s in Social Work. She has over 10 years’ experience working with a trauma informed care background to help a wide range of issues and populations, including: adoption, foster care, family systems, biological/birth families, adoptive and adoptee family members, parenting issues, and more. In addition to her extensive work with children and families, Mia is skilled in working with individuals of all ages seeking mental health counseling for trauma, grief & loss, behavioral issues, mental illness, attachment issues, and those seeking greater satisfaction in life. Mia works from a strengths based perspective and believes that therapy is not a one-size fits all. She believes each client already possesses gifts and strengths, and she helps clients understand their innate abilities. Mia enjoys working collaboratively with her clients to help them identify their goals and encourages clients to utilize their existing strengths, while also learning new skills and tools to reach their goals. Mia prioritizes building trust and rapport with clients to build a foundation for meaningful connection and healing to occur. Mia knows clients deserve thoughtful, tailored treatment and is dedicated to ensuring her clients get exactly that! Mia draws from her background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and additional trauma informed care approaches (TF-CBT, ADOPTS Certification, & Bibliotherapy) to tailor treatment. She has been trained on the impact trauma has on the body, and helps clients recognize the connection between mental health and physical health. Depending on the client’s needs, Mia also integrates tangible skill building and/or homework for clients in between sessions to provide additional structure. Mia has a nurturing, kind, and thoughtful presence, making it easy for clients of all ages to feel comfortable opening up to her. When you work with Mia, be prepared to be met with genuine acceptance, compassion, and when appropriate--a bit of humor that will bring a smile to your face and healing perspective to your soul.
