Hello, My name is Maria Wilson, and I am currently a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist serving California clients. I specialize both in Couples Therapy and working with individuals suffering from Eating Disorders and co-occurring mood disorders and mental health struggles such as anxiety, grief, attachment struggles, relational dynamics, stress, and adjustment phases. I can't wait to meet you! My approach My main approach is client-centered. However, I utilize interventions and skills found in Narrative Therapy, Attachment Therapy, DBT, CBT, and Psychodynamic Therapy, depending on the client's needs in therapy. I offer an empathetic, yet confrontational approach with my clients, allowing for a safe space to discuss vulnerable topics. My focus I work with individuals and couples ages 18+. I focus on individuals suffering from Eating Disorders and co-occurring mood disorders and couples desiring to reconnect with their partner, identify communication barriers, address attachment injuries, and set clear intentions and goals for their relationship(s). My communication style I see you as the person that you are, not the struggle you're coming into therapy with. That being said, I like to converse with you like you're talking to a friend with strong boundaries and deep, philosophical questions. I love having deep conversations about things that are in question and try to cut through the surface talk relatively quickly, again depending on the client. My journey to therapy Since I was in elementary school, I have always found myself to be curious about other people's stories and experiences. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to help people and shine a light on darker areas in their lives. I never once broke confidence in my dreams of opening up my own private practice, and I continue to be in awe of my client's emotional and physical resilience. I greatly respect the courage and vulnerability of those who choose therapy.
