About

Hello, I'm Marcia Naomi Berger, an experienced, well-trained individual and couples therapist. I integrate process, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic approaches for each person's unique situation. I'm practical, friendly, accepting, and the author of two helpful books: "Marriage Minded: An A to Z Dating Guide for Lasting Love," and "Marriage Meetings for Lasting Love: 30 Minutes a Week to the Relationship You've Always Wanted." My approach Cognitive-behavioral, Psychodynamic, Process, Couple and Family Systems, and Integrative. My focus I typically work with clients who have relationship issues with a marriage or romantic partner, a family member, or a work associate. I'm most comfortable treating married and other committed couples and individuals who yearn to marry but need to gain self-awareness, education, and support to date constructively and create an emotionally and spiritually fulfilling marriage. My communication style I create a relaxed, friendly, accepting tone/environment with my clients. It feels enjoyable to work with me usually. Sometimes it's less comfortable to work with me, especially when I tell clients how their self-defeating behaviors get in their way of achieving their goals. I explain that it takes great willpower and practice to change a habit. My journey to therapy I was attracted to being a therapist as a child welfare worker. I realized that in the long run, I could be more helpful to children by helping adults (and parents) improve their emotional and mental health. So I switched to work in an alcoholism treatment center where I received excellent training in family and couple therapy and various other modalities, such as gestalt, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and other approaches. I loved learning. My mission is to help people create fulfilling marriages, whether they are already married or want to be. My goals for you I ask them what they would like to achieve by coming to therapy and I list their goals.
