Welcome! My name is Maram Hekhuis and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Michigan and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I have 7 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have worked with individuals with a wide range of concerns including, depression, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, anger, self-esteem and confidence issues, coping with life changes, immigration and acculturation issues, coping with chronic physical challenges, and substance use disorders.

My compassion and dedication to the field of mental health stems from my personal experiences/upbringing, and recognizing the stigma and need for mental health care. Mental Illnesses cause disturbances in thinking, emotions, and behaviors that make it difficult for us to cope with ordinary life responsibilities and demands. I understand that seeking help and opening up to a complete stranger can be very challenging and overwhelming. I want you to know that I’m here for you so you don’t have to face your challenges alone, and to help you gain self-awareness and insight into your mental health challenges and ways to overcome them. I describe my style as non-judgmental, empathetic, warm, sensitive, client-centered and strengths based. I believe that building a strong therapeutic rapport and alliance is an essential part of having successful outcomes in therapy. Together we can work as a team to establish concrete goals and steps for you to help overcome your current challenges.

I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy informed interventions, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapy to aid you in accomplishing your treatment goals.
