About
Magda Herrera is a “Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist"" and is currently working under supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their CA license number is 126742 and current employer is Marilyn Ashley. Hi, I’m Magda. I am a fully bilingual, Spanish-speaking therapist. My primary theoretical approach to treatment is Psychodynamic Therapy which is essentially a depth-oriented lens that explores past experiences as a way of understanding the roots of why we do and believe the things we do in the present. I also use a range of other Evidence Based models such as Narrative Therapy which focuses on the stories we tell ourselves and how we can modify or expand them to give us different outcomes in our lives, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is centered around adjusting thoughts and behaviors to change our feelings and stop unhealthy patterns. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Northridge. Thereafter, I received a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University Los Angeles, where I graduated with Honors. I completed a course in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) which is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers that successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and complex trauma experiences. Over the course of my graduate work, I received training at Airport Marina Counseling Services in Westchester, CA, providing therapy to adults, adolescents, children, and families. I supported clients with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, domestic violence, family relational trauma, parenting and interpersonal relationships.
