About
My work in psychological counseling started ten years ago with people who had very persistent and debilitating diagnoses. I then went on to work with children and families, first with those who were experiencing homelessness, and later those whose children had behavior problems. In recent years, I have worked most often with depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, and the transgender community.
My approach is person-centered, which means that, first, I want to know what's important to you. Then, using all the tools I know that could be appropriate and helpful for you, we move forward, step by step. The tools I lean on the most come from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but also include dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). As often as possible, I want to focus on practical solutions, not only discussing past patterns and getting insight. One of the best tools for everyone in this world is humor, so I tend to inject some laughter and lightness into our communications when appropriate. I can help you identify emotions, thoughts, and core beliefs, and we'll most likely challenge some of these along the way, in order to free you from their bullying influence. At times I may remind you that some uncomfortable things will always be part of life, but I'll also remind you that you are strong and capable enough to handle it.
A final note on COVID-19: Not much is going to function as it ideally would! Just know that, if you are at home with kids or pets but still want someone to talk to, we can still use all the ways to connect, including video sessions. Life happens, interruptions will be part of the plan, and we will deal with whatever comes up! Also know that, if finances are a concern, Find A Therapist is available to talk to you as soon as you become an active client about making your support here affordable and possible.
