About
Lilian Contin is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) who has an uncommon professional path. She earned her PhD in Science at Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil in 2011. The concentration area of her doctoral program was the study of human brain’s functioning, specifically neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. This knowledge sparked even more curiosity and questions that Lilian found some answers by changing areas to study Psychology. In 2013, Lilian had the opportunity to study Clinical Psychology, at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. During the four years of undergrad, Lilian continued her academic work by researching children’s early development. In 2021, she earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Roosevelt University. The knowledge obtained during her PhD and Master’s degrees gave her a better understanding of the relationship between Psychological Theories and the brain functioning. Lilian’s personal experiences as foreigner student as well as resident in Europe and in the US strengthened the importance that she gives to practicing counseling through Multicultural Approach. In addition, in her practice she uses Humanistic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. Lilian has a valuable experience working in community mental health, where she addressed a variety of issues faced by her clients, such as adjustment to life transitions, grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems, traumatic experiences, and cultural shock. Lilian is a curious person by nature and a passionate counselor that provides therapy in a collaborative manner. She explains therapy through the following metaphor: When you are in a long journey, sometimes you need to stop, rest, and think about the best path ahead – this is exactly the role of therapy in the journey of life. Some people come to therapy to know themselves better, others to heal from certain experiences, or to address very specific problems.
