Laurie is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with over 20 years of experience. In addition, she is a Certified Addictions Counselor (CADC) and a Mental Illness and Substance Abuse Counselor (MISAII). She holds a Master’s degree in Community Counseling, a Master’s degree in School Leadership (type 75 license) and a School Counseling license (type 73 license). She has also received her certification in Clinical Hypnosis. In addition, Laurie is also a trained Life Coach. Laurie’s areas of specialty include addictions, anxiety, depression, and family systems. She is extremely skilled working with the following population(s); individual, children, adolescents, family and couple counseling. She believes in tailoring treatment based on individual needs. She works on building a balanced lifestyle which leads to emotional wellness. She also utilizes relaxation training and cognitive behavioral treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, as well as variety of stress related disorders. She recently published a book (2018) “Moving Through It”, on integrating exercise and cognitive behavior therapy, for individuals who suffer with depression as well as anxiety. She is a member of the following; Illinois Schools Counseling Association (ISCA), as well as a past president (2013), Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association (IMCHA), as well as the American Counseling Association. In 2008, she was awarded the Elementary School Counselor of the year. She is now serving as President for the Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association (IMCHA), as well as a Governing Board member for the Illinois Counseling Association (ICA). Laurie is a full time faculty member at National Louis University (2012- present)
