About
My goal in therapy is to assist you in exploring issues, emotions, and behaviors that are troubling you or causing distress. These emotions or behaviors may result in anxiety, depression, unhealthy relationships, or general discontent. My approach is to work with you collaboratively, by addressing these struggles and working towards a solution and/or changes that seem reasonable and within reach. My purpose is to encourage you to express yourself, increase your self-awareness, help you lessen any shame or guilt that is getting in the way, help you identify your goals and the obstacles that are keeping you from reaching those goals. I listen carefully, share my insights and observations, and help you develop strategies for making the changes you want to see. I rely heavily on my therapeutic training, my personal experience, and my extensive work with individuals, couples, and groups over the past 30 years. In addition to working as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I have been a community college counselor and instructor, as well as a lecturer at California State University, Chico for over 25 years. At CSUC I taught in the Master’s program of Counseling Psychology, training students to become licensed therapists.
