Hello and thank you for reading my profile. It is essential that you find a therapist whom you feel comfortable discussing personal details of your life. My name is Laura Jensen. I am an African American woman who is 53 years old. I am a licensed clinical social worker in Minnesota with over six years of experience in behavioral health. I work with adults who are recovering from mental illness who often have co-occurring cognitive challenges and substance abuse disorders. I have experience working with clients who are diagnosed with a wide range of mood and thought disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder. I value diversity and enjoy working with clients who have backgrounds and social identities that are different than my own.

My role as a therapist is to promote self-empowerment and self-awareness with the people I serve. I treat people with respect and sensitivity. I believe a person-centered approach will help you with setting goals that are meaningful to you. I utilize a variety of interventions borrowed from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative, Attachment and a few other types of therapy. The goals of therapy include addressing current issues, introducing healthier ways to cope with situations and help you figure out how to take better care of yourself.

Talk therapy enhances your life by providing a safe place for you to process your feelings and facilitate personal growth. I think the best results happen when a therapist and client work together as a team and focus on specific goals. This therapeutic working relationship leads to improving self-awareness, healing and making progress towards accomplishing your goals.
