Welcome to Find A Therapist!
My name is Laura and I began my career as a medical social worker in 2008 working in the Emergency Department, Oncology Units, ICUs, NICUs, as well as with outpatient clinics. I began practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2016 working at an Intensive Outpatient Center working with military connected people (both military members and family members) leading group therapy and providing individual therapy for addictions. From there, I volunteered as a group facilitator for a grief group for teenagers and eventually found myself working for a non-profit providing trauma therapy for children of domestic violence survivors.
My specialty is trauma, and my current focus is on Complex PTSD which focuses on relational trauma and repair. I focus a lot on how the Stress-Response Cycle helps to explain our reactions to certain events/words/stimuli, which is important in learning how to better cope with all the things we experience in our lives. It is very nuanced and very personal, so it differs from person to person.
I am currently studying new treatment modalities that help to connect emotions and thoughts to our bodies and vice versa. This is important for creating safety within ourselves as well as with others. Those modalities are Trauma Informed Weight Lifting and Trauma Sensitive Yoga.
My role as a therapist is to meet you where you are, be a guide for your self-discovery and help you learn how to heal. This includes always learning about new ways to heal as well as all the different ways we understand each other.
