About

Welcome to Find A Therapist! I'm sure you're wondering how this works and whether it's the right fit for you. You’ve taken a big step today. It’s expected and completely normal to feel apprehensive or unsure about it at this point. I know I felt the same way when I first came to Find A Therapist too. See what you think, and let’s give it a try.

My name is Laura Boggan, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Tennessee. I earned my Master of Science in Psychology, specializing in Social Development, from the University of Memphis in 1994. I also attended Trevecca Nazarene University in 2013-2014 in the Master of Arts in Counseling program, which provided an updated perspective and helped to keep my skills relevant. This reinforced my strengths in working from an integrative health model, with a view that we begin from a place of essential wellness, but can sometimes drift away from healthy coping methods under stressful conditions and within toxic interpersonal situations and unsupportive (or worse, destructive) relationship dynamics with others.

I've worked in many different settings with individuals and couples who have a variety of personal concerns such as depression/anxiety, stress, trauma/abuse, family-of-origin issues, challenges due to LGBT identities, addictions of all types, relationship conflicts, spiritual/ethical struggles, and many others.

As a counselor with almost 25 years in the field, and with considerable life experience, I’m able to relate to many of the situations you may now be encountering. However, I think that it is most important for a therapist to be open to understanding what things have been like for you, whatever your background or personal story. And, I believe that the most important aspect of counseling by far is the connection and comfort level you can feel with the therapist of your choosing.

I believe we can all grow through challenging experiences by increasing our self-awareness. Our relationship with self and others is key, I believe, and is so important to explore in counseling in order for us to achieve growth.

Sometimes an outside perspective can give us the extra insight we need to “think outside the box” and push through a difficult situation where we have felt stuck. I would like to help provide that extra perspective for you. I avoid giving clients advice, but I will make it priority to help you see every potential option you might have before taking action about a concern. I prefer to serve as a supportive coach at your side and help empower you; I won’t encourage you to depend on me but instead to feel stronger and have more faith in your own abilities.

You are welcome to message me anytime through Find A Therapist. The frequency with which you can have access to a counselor to work through day to day emotions and problem solving is extremely beneficial for most and a nice change from traditional outpatient counseling. I usually check messages twice each day, seven days per week. I offer messaging, live chat and phone sessions with limited availability in the evenings and weekends. Please note that what you see in my calendar may not reflect my only availability so you will always want to check that out with me through messaging first.

I look forward to working with you!
