About
Welcome to my page! My official business name is RISE Mind & Body, LLC but you will know me as Laura McLaughlin here. I have my bachelors in social psychology from Augsburg college in Minneapolis, MN and a masters in counseling psychology from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. I have been a caring professional with a background in counseling since 2005. My roles as a helper began with youth addiction counseling, child & family therapy, and with attachment and trauma therapy. My current specialties include eating disorders utilizing the intuitive eating approach and internal family systems.
Many people who suffer from their negative self talk have issues that stem from trauma in relationships. It is very common and understandable that many people have issues with alcohol, depression, sleep disturbance, and anxiety that stem from trauma. The process of unpacking these traumas and learning how to self soothe in a compassionate way is important for individuals to resolve their negative coping patterns. I personally suffered The unfortunate experience of domestic violence domestic violence and emotional narcissistic abuse which led me to have a restrictive binge eating disorder and have recovered through therapy. I believe I can empathize with my clients and their struggles and understand where they are coming from. As the child of a divorced family I also understand the attachment traumas from childhood that occur can lead us to feel like there are empty places that need to be filled by codependent behavior. In my work with individuals, children, and family over the years have seen that we all have trauma. We in fact face new traumas while still processing old ones. The goal is not to be done, or to forget, but to learn how to cope, be satisfied with life, and form healthy attachments that give us a feeling of belonging and meaning. I look forward to the opportunity to walk with you in your journey of healing and finding peace.
