About

Life is full of ups and downs, challenges and successes, good times and bad times. Do you feel like you are stuck at a low point? Are you hopeless that things will ever get better? Well, I'm here to tell you they CAN. Do you want to wake up every morning, excited and optimistic to start your day? Can you imagine a day not filled with stress, anxiety, or fear? Let me tell you how.

First of all, applaud yourself for reaching out and asking for help. That is the first step in making change. The definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If you are tired of living a life of insanity, you must be willing to make changes. Change is scary, though. My role as your therapist is to help reassure you and encourage you to keep going. We all need someone to trust and confide in; I want to be that person for you. I truly believe that finding a therapist takes time. It's an investment into your future. Would you buy a pair of shoes that hurt and didn't fit? No. Similarly, I need to be a good fit for you. After all, this is your time. I want you to feel validated, inspired and motivated after our sessions.

Now, let me introduce myself and see if we match. My name is Laura Dalton and I received my degree in Mental Health Counseling and School Social Work in 2011. I have 15 years of working with adults, children, families, and couples. My experience ranges from outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, residential treatment facilities, and schools. Currently, I work as a school social worker at a public high school outside of Boston, MA. When I am not working, I love walking and bike riding, spending time with my niece and nephew, watching Family Feud and Impractical Jokers, doing Sudoku puzzles, volunteering, and experimenting in the kitchen! I have been told I can be sarcastic and I often will incorporate humor in counseling.

I believe that "one size does not fit all" and I tailor my approach and style of therapy to meet the client's needs. With that said, there are approaches to therapy that I follow more than others. The first being Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. If you change one of these parts, all other parts will be affected. I think what we say to ourselves is powerful and has a strong impact on how we live our lives. I tend to use interventions such as re-framing negative thoughts, saying positive affirmations, reality checking thoughts, role-playing, and identifying coping skills to use when feeling distressed. Another treatment approach I like is Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT). This is an action-oriented approach that emphasizes mindfulness. This is helpful for people wanting to reduce stress, overcome fear, recover from addiction, and live a richer, more meaningful life.

Therapy is a journey that will take you through self-awareness, self-growth, and discovering your identity in life. Are you ready to begin? I would be honored to go on this journey with you!
