About
Do you ever feel like you have no one to talk to, like no one will understand? Do you have consistent feelings of sadness, anger, anxiousness, fear, or doubt? Are there issues from your past that you cannot seem to get through? Are you faced with difficult decisions with no clear direction? Have you ever been told to “suck it up", “get over it”, or made to feel weak about any area in your life? If your answer is yes to any of those questions, you are in the right place! No matter what you have heard or been told THERAPY IS FOR YOU, it is for anyone and everyone who wants to commit to the process!
My name is Lakia, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have a background of working in a variety of settings such as; inpatient psychiatric facilities, schools, community counseling, out-patient behavioral health, and medical clinics. I also have worked with a host of issues like trauma, depression, anxiety, family conflict, serious mental illness, and other hardships. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma and my Master’s degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. I have used therapy modalities such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Client-Centered therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Strength based Therapy, and more. Since being licensed in 2013, I have dedicated my work to helping individuals (regardless of race, gender, IQ, past mistakes, socioeconomic status, or background) feel heard, supported, assisted, and worthy!
I am an African American, woman. I come from a background where mental struggles were not seen as a "real" issues. In my community in the past, the stigma surrounding mental health made it difficult for individuals to speak up regarding their struggles and/or seek treatment. I grew up and lived in an area where there has also been a lack of mental health services that are provided to those considered to be minorities.
I offer a safe and real environment where I will meet you where you are. No two individuals are alike; therefore the way we travel through life will look different. I am not here to judge you or tell you what to do. I am here to help you help yourself. I am laid back and love having and interactive approach. Therapy is a team sport and I am here to offer you a teammate that is willing to play whatever role is needed at that moment, a teammate who will listen and have a positive attitude, a teammate who will often point out you strengths while helping work through your weaknesses, and a teammate to support you in your difficult moments and cheer you on in your accomplishments. Let’s work together to win!
I am available for short and long term counseling and I work nights and weekends to accommodate those with varying or late schedules.
CONGRATULATIONS, on taking the first step in the process of becoming a better YOU!!!!!
