About
Hi there, I'm Kirsten! Kirsten Storne-Piazza, Licensed Marriage, and Family Counselor. My goal is to build a strong therapist-client alliance and develop strategies together that help the client achieve their highest potential in relationships and life. My approach I use a combination of Psychodynamic, Humanistic, and Behavioral therapies. My approach to therapy is collaborative, interactive, and mindful. I utilize tools and solution-focused techniques to assess where we start and measure your success along the way. My focus I specialize in working with first responders and their families. First responder work is stressful for the individual and family members. I worked as a first responder and I am married to a first responder. My mission is to help those who have chosen to make a career to help others. That career can often be filled with trauma and critical incidents that can often compile and reflect on family life. My goal is to support those individuals and families navigate those intricate situations. My communication style The most effective environment of therapy is a supportive, non-judgmental, and calm environment where the client feels safe to express themselves. My journey to mental healthcare I am in a law enforcement family and we had a traumatic work event. Experiencing that event helped me see that there is a gap in support for first responders and their families after such events. I decided the best way to help was to become trained and specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma and help them navigate through situations in order to live a satisfying and fulfilled life. My goals for you I have found that utilizing SMART goals is successful with clients. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based. My first session with you The first session is an introductory session to get to know each other, develop trust, and set goals for therapy.
