Hello and thank you for checking in with me. My name is Kimberly but most people call me Kim. I completed my Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling at Webster University in Myrtle Beach, SC in 2010. I received my license in February 2014.
I have experience working in the private sector with in-home family counseling and with youth in a day treatment setting. This included providing psycho-educational training for parents and other family care providers. Issues within this population include but are not limited to anger management, depression, behavior problems, anxiety, relational issues, low self-esteem, communication problems and sex offenders. I have other experience working within the military sector. I have spent the majority of my time as a Military Family Life Counselor working with Soldiers and family members who experience difficulty adjusting to the military life style particularly prior to and after deployments.
My approach to counseling is being an active listener to gain understanding as to what the needs of my clients are. I believe that as clients gain insight into their own situation that they are empowered to make changes within their control that will ultimately affect their environments and improve the entire system be it familial, within the employment setting, relational, etc. In addition to the systemic approach, I also use Cognitive Behavioral therapy.
I believe that when therapist and client can work together, we can get to the bottom line issue(s) and improve the overall quality of life of the client
