About

Post graduate employment and internships combined have provided me with approximately eighteen years of counseling and supervisory experience, six years of which in clinical administrative, eight years of clinical service provision, and ten years of experience as a human services instructor on the undergraduate and graduate level. I am dually licensed in North Carolina LPC (#3901) since 2001 and in Georgia (#5128) since 2007 as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am licensed as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (#3217) effective 2018.

Experience has provided me with the opportunity to work with individuals, groups, and families with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and physical needs in state mental health, private, and non-profit settings. Populations served include children, adolescents, and adults, crisis intervention, clinical assessment/diagnostic services, substance use disorders, inpatient and outpatient settings, short and long-term therapy, and administrative experience as clinical supervisor for substance abuse, mental health, and developmental disabilities.

My personal philosophy is that both the counseling and client experience should be unique to each individual. The theoretical orientation that I draw most from during intervention is the cognitive-behavioral approach. The client works together with the counselor to bring about the achievement of positive and productive life goals established by the consumer. Techniques may include charting emotions and behaviors, exploring past and present patterned behaviors, and homework to put into practice alternative behaviors discussed in sessions outside of the therapeutic environment. Commitment to participation and a desire to actively work toward positive change and personal resilience comprise two of the most important elements that the client brings to the counseling process.
