Hi there, I'm Kimberly! My name is Kim Porter. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 13+ years experience in the field. In therapy, I focus on the power of relationship, strengths, and laughter. My approach My goal is to create a strong connection with my clients so therapy feels safe and supportive. I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing in my practice as well as laughter. My focus I work with teens and adults who may have challenges with depression, anxiety, past trauma, current relationships, and stress. My communication style Relationship with my clients is really important to me. I focus on that connection first to create a therapeutic space that feels safe and supportive. I also am a big fan of humor. Life can be hard and messy - laughter can help. My journey to therapy I became a therapist to be challenged each day to make a connection with someone in order to help them. I have spent a lot of time doing non profit work with immigrants, youth, families, and parents which has led me to be a well rounded therapist today. My goals for you Goal setting must be a collaborative process so that clients feel invested in their goals and have input and ownership over making the goals their own. My first session with you During the first sessions, clients should be prepared to spend some time connecting and learning about each other. First sessions, generally have a lot of questions so that I can get a better idea on how to best support them. I try to balance the number of questions by also focusing on connection.
