About
My name is Kimberly Laskowski, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My approach to helping my clients is to meet them where they are struggling the most. I believe in the power of healing. I think it's important for my clients to practice new skills in between sessions. My approach I often work with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I do also use Psychodynamic theory, Narrative approach, and Client-Centered Therapy. My focus I often work with Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Mood Disorders, Adjustment Disorders, Trauma, and Parenting issues. My communication style It is very important to me that I create a non-judgmental space for clients. My style is relaxed but direct. My clients often share they felt comfortable the first time I spoke to them when scheduling their first appointment and that was consistent throughout their treatment. My journey to mental healthcare I never intended to be a therapist. Let's just say it chose me. I liked helping people and seeing them accomplish the best version of themselves. At the last minute of declaring a major for college, I checked the box for Sociology. I loved the study of Sociology but found a deep interest in Psychology. I had (and still do) a need to know how people are affected by events or experiences in their life and ways that can relieve their pain or discomfort. My goals for you I think it's important that my clients set goals at their first session. I discuss what a client would like to accomplish during our time working together. My first session with you My initial session is getting to know you. I ask a series of questions that helps me develop a relationship with my client as well as developing a treatment plan
