About
"We cannot always change the things that happen in our lives, however, we can learn to develop better ways of handling them."
Hi! My name is Kevin Webster (he/him/his), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado and a national Board Certified Counselor (NCC). I have four years of clinical counseling and therapy experience, and I have primarily served justice-involved individuals and families struggling with addictions, severe mental illness, and lifespan and developmental issues. Despite this, I consider myself to be a mental health generalist, and I have helped people navigate depression, suicidality, anxiety, career changes and career development, life transitions, stress, anger management, family of origin problems, trauma, childhood abuse and neglect, developing acceptance around chronic mental health diagnoses, and helping people enter into recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, bipolar disorders, and schizophrenia. I am a firm believer in social justice and anti-racism and have help my clients through LGBTQ+ issues and concerns and trauma stemming from racism and prejudice. I've worked in outpatient treatment centers, classrooms, jails, and court rooms.
What I love most about being a counselor is joining with my clients to help them reach their goals.
Theoretically, I work from a strengths-based (i.e. discovering your own natural talents, attributes, and qualities that promote resilience and coping), trauma-informed counseling framework that combines motivational interviewing approaches, cognitive restructuring, and general supportive, client-centered counseling. I firmly believe that all my clients have the inner skills, strengths, and resilience to overcome their current challenges. I believe in my clients that no challenge is insurmountable, and, through a strong, collaborative therapeutic relationship, my clients come to believe in themselves, which allows themselves to heal.
What is most important to me is helping my clients find authenticity in their lives and being the best version of themselves. Some barriers are real, and we must find internal flexibility to live a wholesome life. Some barriers are perceived, and we must learn to dismantle challenges we create for ourselves. At its core, my therapeutic approach is a cognitive restructuring style, and I draw from Carl Rogers's client-centered approach, wellness and developmental counseling and mindful approaches to help clients find optimal mental and behavioral health.
