About

I'm Kelsey Hopson-Shiller and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I think everyone should go to therapy because therapy makes life easier! I provide a warm, non-judgmental environment for my clients to work on the places where they feel like they're struggling. I work with individuals- especially members of the LGBTQIA+ community- of all ages. My approach I come from a systems-focused, strengths-based perspective. I use mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. My focus I do most of my work with members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I primarily see adults currently, but I have a lot of experience (and really enjoy) working with teens and young adults as well. I do a lot of work with clients who are experiencing anxiety or other mood-related issues as well as struggles with relationships (romantic/friends/family) and work or school. My communication style I try to create a really comfortable environment and I let the client lead. I will use humor whenever it's appropriate as I point out areas for growth or reflection. I focus on building strong rapport because I believe the best work happens in an environment where a client knows they can trust me- even when the work itself is uncomfortable. My journey to mental healthcare I like people and (I know it sounds cheesy, but) I feel awed and honored that my clients let me be a part of their lives the way they do! All of my clients are so brave and willing to work toward the lives they really want and it never stops being so meaningful to be a part of that process. My goals for you I work with clients to identify treatment goals in the first few sessions, and then we re-visit those goals throughout treatment. My first session with you Depends on the client! I always want to hear about what the client is expecting therapy to be and- if they've done therapy previously- what they liked or disliked, or found really effective, or more about what hasn't worked well for them.
