Hi there, I'm Kathleen! My name is Kathy Blenko, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I work primarily with adults who are experiencing relationship issues, life transitions, and loss. I favor an attachment-based model which explores how early experiences have shaped the sense of self. My approach I have a collaborative style that places an emphasis on respect, honesty, and empowerment. Attachment theory works well in gaining insight into growth and change. Some clients prefer to use cognitive behavioral therapy (change thought patterns) or to work on coping strategies. My focus Mature adults are a good fit, given my life experience. I feel particularly drawn to clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, a loss of some kind, or difficult life transitions/relationships. Another area of interest is integrating spirituality with therapy. My communication style I am a warm and empathetic person who is a good listener. Relational in style, I like to be curious and affirming. I value creating a safe space where there is acceptance and no judgment. My journey to therapy Although my first career was in marketing, I have always been interested in becoming a therapist. Affected by mental health in my own family, I have a lot of compassion for others in this situation. As I naturally like to help others, it is rewarding to now have the training and experience to do so in a meaningful way. My goals for you The first priority is to build trust and to collaboratively define what it would look like to feel better. It is helpful to revisit these goals over time to check progress and to ask for your feedback. Ultimately, my intent for you is to be better equipped to navigate life. My first session with you I will do my best to put you at ease, explain briefly what to expect in the process, and ask if you have any questions.
