About
As a person-centered therapist, I work to create a safe place where you feel heard and understood. It is important that you are able to express your experiences, find ways you cope, and learn to reduce triggers. I work with other tools including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which uses mindfulness and emotional regulation to reduce symptoms; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), for thought processing and adaptation; Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), to reduce the impact of traumatic experiences; and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), to address suicidal ideations and reduce inpatient stays. These are just a few of the ways I help you understand your own strengths and increase your coping skills. Since graduating in 2012 from Capella University with my Masters in Mental Health Counseling, I worked at a small agency, community mental health center, and then opened my own private practice, Amity Counseling. I have worked with many populations including those struggling with substance abuse, domestic violence perpetrators, and clients experiencing severe mental illness. I began working with couples as well using Gottman Couples Therapy. I love learning and taking new training to increase my knowledge and skills. I enjoy hearing others stories and watching them overcome challenges, reach goals, and grow with the new tools they learn.
