I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Louisiana with a wide range of work experience: guidance counseling in both high school and university settings, recidivism prevention in prisons, and personal/group counseling for the Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse. My profession has given me the incredible opportunity to encounter so many people, each with their own unique backgrounds and struggles. And therapy is exactly that... a meaningful encounter between two people.

So with regards to treatment plans and theoretical orientations, those to me are secondary to getting to know you better and helping you assess what will work best in our time together. Though if you are interested in these types of specifics, I do tend to operate from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework. If I could point to any strengths of mine as a therapist, they would be building rapport quickly and empowering clients to make their own decisions. I do not like giving advice. To me that is poor counseling because you know yourself best (but I can help you get to know yourself better). Besides, you probably get a lot of "You should do this" or "You need to do that" from others.

I think it's great that you are open to the therapeutic process. It takes a lot of courage getting started with something like this but I promise that much of it can be enjoyable and enlightening.
