About

My name is Julie Jakobi. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the State of Florida and I have a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am also a certified Adoption Specialist through the Florida Department of Children and Families.

I have experience in working daily with adults and children who need help in their daily lives with Anxiety, Anger Management, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Major Recurring Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, Trauma, and Adjustment Disorder. I have struggled myself with depression and anxiety for 20 years and have a great deal of practical knowledge about how to manage these issues.

My approach is to help the client identify what is working in their life and what not may be working so well. Then we collaborate to figure out new approaches in order to solve problems and alleviate symptoms. I also work with my clients to educate themselves about what is going on in their mind and body so they can cope better with their symptoms and achieve greater relief and change. I utilize a number of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, Brainspotting, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

My journey towards becoming a mental health counselor began in 2002/2003 when I adopted four foster children. I obtained “on the job” training about dealing with Reactive Attachment Disorder, ADD/ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I also learned how to deal effectively with a variety of misbehaviors. As my children reached adulthood, the experience of meeting and working with a mental health counselor who understood the issues that foster/adopted children and families struggle with filled me with the desire to help others with those same issues. I have been able to take that experience and help numerous parents and families who struggle with misbehavior.

I will get back to you the same day that you send your first message to me. I try to respond as quickly as possible every day, including weekends.
