I am Judy Slobig, a licensed clinical social worker in Washington, D.C. with over 40 years of professional experience. I have a Ph.D. in multicultural studies, and master’s degrees in social work and urban studies. I have worked as an educator, community organizer, mediator, trainer, and social worker in the inner cities of Chicago, Milwaukee, and Washington, D.C. I have been trained in Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I work with adults, adolescents, children, and families in the areas of: crisis response intervention to disaster-struck communities, conflict resolution and mediation, refugee support, communication strategies, death and dying, AIDS and catastrophic illness counseling, anxiety and depression, relationship issues, chemical dependency, foster care, adoption, mental and physical challenges, and physical abuse and neglect. In addition, I have lived and worked in Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Iran, Sudan, Ukraine, Russia, Indonesia, Cambodia, India, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, South Africa, Tanzania, and Haiti in organizational, community, and individual initiatives. I have been a mental health volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 25 years in numerous national disasters, including the 9/11 response at the Pentagon and NYC. I trained at the Center of Excellence in Disaster Management & Humanitarian Assistance at the Bethesda Naval Center in Maryland, at the Critical Incident Stress Foundation in Baltimore, and at the Columbia University Public Health in Complex Emergencies in Neum, Bosnia. I have advanced certification in international psychosocial responses to disaster and humanitarian emergencies. I was a recipient of President Obama’s Volunteer Service Award in 2011.
