Joy Laurila is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has experience providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. Joy obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota in 2006. Joy chose therapy as a career path because her warm, empathic and analytic nature are a natural fit for therapy. Joy’s approach is kind and non-judgmental. She believes that each of us are doing the best we know how to in the moment. Joy loves helping people identify their strengths, find hope in difficult situations and learn new skills. Her clients can expect collaboration, warmth, compassion, sensitivity, trust, honesty and respect. Joy also thinks that humor and laughter can be a part of the therapeutic process. Her goal as a therapist is to provide a space where clients feel genuinely heard and she considers it an honor to help people meet their goals.

Joy specializes in treating Eating Disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder), Body Dysmorphia and Mood Disorders (such as Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder and Adjustment Disorder). She utilizes a variety of evidenced based treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR), Family Based Treatment (FBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Insight Oriented Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness.
