About

Hello. I am a semi-retired former academic and a part-time therapist looking forward to the possibility of working with you to assist with the concerns that prompted you to seek out Find A Therapist. My background includes several decades of private practice, primarily with adults and couples. In that work, I developed a number of specialties, mostly by having prior clients and other providers pass me on to friends in referral for assistance for individual or couples counseling. Those referrals have included a large number of other health care providers, such as physicians, dentists, and other mental health professionals. Other areas of frequently sought aid have been with anxious and depressed persons, and I have had a lengthy practice working with bereaved adults. I have also been involved in grief work following familial loss, disasters and community crises, and in response to Red Cross solicitation of my help. Further, I helped found the international and American-based Association for Death Education and Counseling many years ago, and served as their 2nd president and frequent advanced course continuing educator. In addition, I worked in a university setting for many years, both as a counseling center director (twice), and a therapist for college age men & women at three institutions. My scholarship over the years as a professor also focused on organ and blood donation. My approach to individual work is mainly using what is called cognitive behavioral therapy, a highly regarded and effective treatment modality. I also have been a professional business executive coach for over 30 years, and have written manuals on that subject as well. Finally, by way of description of my background, I hold a professional diploma in psychology, a qualification credential held by only 4% of No. American psychologists. I really enjoy working with adults seeking help in areas of good fit, and think my positive outlook, personable manner and professional approach work well for a variety of needs and personalities, as well as with clients of diverse backgrounds. My outlook is that we all find help-seeking worthwhile at times, and I am honored to be able to be a helper for some of those in need. Previous clients have described me as very approachable, flexible, responsive, knowledgeable, and their time with me beneficial. I would be pleased to consider working as your Find A Therapist counselor, if you think I might be of assistance.
