Hi, thank you for taking a few moments to read about me and see if I am a good fit for you as a counselor. I am Dr. Joe Campbell, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) with over 15 years of counseling, clinical supervision, and teaching experiences. I appreciate the work you are doing to seek out a counselor, engage in the counseling process, and I am happy to work with you.

My counseling experiences come from a variety of settings with a variety of presenting issues including: adult and adolescent substance use and mental illness outpatient treatment; career counseling with college students about values, self-awareness, and career goals; couples and family work addressing divorce, commitment, and relationship growth; and individual counseling on growth, development, and change. Overall, I am a generalist counselor and my clinical work has focused on depression, anxiety, mental health and illness, stress and adjustment, grief and loss, substance use, relationships, LGBTQ+, career counseling, wellness, life transitions, and more.

As a counselor I believe that one of the most important factors in counseling is building a collaborative, therapeutic, and trusting relationship. My counseling approach incorporates positive regard and empathy, is warm and interactive, provides encouragement and challenge by incorporating a variety of cognitive, behavioral, learning and reflective techniques. I work to I meet people where they are at in their journey, trust that they have their own answers, and that counseling provides a space and therapeutic relationship to explore and evaluate feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and more. I believe that people change by having opportunities to gain insight, identify solutions, and practice and learn ways of living that are congruent with their goals, values, and world-view.
