About
My name is Jonathan Kabbes, and I have been working in the clinical mental health field since 2014 when I finished my Masters in Professional Counseling degree at McKendree University. Following my graduation I began working with developmentally delayed youth within a sever residential facility in Hoyleton, Illinois. After two years within the residential facility; I moved to East St. Louis and focused my clinical work on Trauma and Abuse as an outpatient clinician. My career journey took a turn as I began the Counselor Education PhD program at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale in 2016 to further my knowledge of counseling and to help Counselors in Training develop the needed skills to become sound clinicians themselves. I had the honor of teaching in SIU Carbondales Counseling graduate program from 2016-2020, McKendree Universities Counseling graduate program from August 2018 - May 2019, and Eastern Illinois University Counseling graduate program from August 2020 - July 2021. I currently teach as an adjunct Professor for Touro College as an online instructor within their Professional Counseling graduate program, and have most recently began my private practice "Crossroads Counseling and Consultation Services, PLLC" in Effingham, Illinois.
The therapeutic lens that I am most often draw to is that of Humanistic and Existential approaches as I see the client's needs and meeting them where they are as the most important factor within the therapeutic process. Given that all individuals are unique and have a unique set of experiences requires me to pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques, which I am able to with a sound understanding of empirically supported theorist. I also relate closely to the use of CBT and DBT as they have been a common modality when working with individuals suffering from Traumatic Experiences. In addition, my primary focus within the clinical setting is to work with individuals and groups struggling to work through; depression/ anxiety, trauma and abuse, relationship issues, career issues, adjustment disorders, and grief/ bereavement.
I have a strong passion for working with others and getting to hear and understand their unique experiences, while meeting them where they are in the healing process. I look forward to being able to provide an open and caring space to allow the personal and interpersonal struggles that client's may be facing to surface and attempt to meet them at whatever crossroads they may be facing at the time. Through my strengths based approach I am sure we can work together to learn from the past and make the best out of the future you have to come down the road. I look forward to meeting you and beginning the process to finding the best YOU!!
Best,
