I am a licensed psychologist with over 35 years of extensive experience helping people cope with anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, chronic health issues, work-related stress, and substance use problems. I have worked in outpatient private practice, inpatient and veterans hospital settings, as well as in sleep disorders and college counseling centers. My undergraduate degree in psychology is from the University of Virginia and my doctorate in clinical psychology is from the University of Toledo. My internship was at the West Haven Veterans Administration Medical Center. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Connecticut Psychological Association, a diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and an assistant clinical professor in the department of psychiatry at Yale University. I write the Sleepless in America blog for Psychology Today. My professional interests and training include cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, behavioral medicine, health psychology, behavioral sleep medicine, and the application of psychological approaches to the management of illness and optimization of health.
