About

Joel entered the master’s program at Antioch University Los Angeles in 2011. He completed his studies while continuing to work full time in his role with LAUSD’s Facilities Division. Following graduation, Joel embarked on his clinical training at the Maple Counseling Center. During the three years of his internship, Joel counseled adults, older adults, millennials, and adolescents. His internship included the facilitation of two process groups of adults with both male and female participants. Joel also counseled two couples. During his training in the Child/Family Track, he worked with children and their families. After finishing his clinical training at Maple, Joel continued counseling clients in a private practice in the Los Angeles area. In addition to Joel’s tenure at Maple Counseling Center, he worked with toddlers and their parents at the Early Childhood Development Center. Joel has established a private practice in the greater Los Angeles area and has been treating adolescents, couples, adults and older adults. Going forward, Joel will specialize in counseling Baby Boomers (middle aged adults) who have retired, or are anticipating retirement, changing careers and/or transitioning to second careers. This clientele is often faced with managing the care and affairs of an elderly parent(s) and the challenges associated with supporting their adult children, some of whom are again, residing with their parents. An area of keen interest, is working with the challenges we all will face in dealing with our own aging and mortality. Facilitating the conversations around advance directives and end-of-life planning is another focus of Joel’s practice. In 2020, Joel plans to facilitate grief counseling groups to support those who have experienced death of a friend, family member or loved one.
