I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker - Clinical Practice Supervisor (LISW-CP) in the state of South Carolina and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Florida, and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor eligible to engage in private independent practice. I received my Master of Social Work degree (MSW) from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina Upstate. I have been working independently with individuals since 2004. I started my social work career working with children and families in the foster care/adoption system. Subsequently, I began working in private practice with a local non-profit and eventually became the division director of behavioral health services. This position allowed me to work with adults and couples with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, domestic violence, family issues, and addiction. I continue this work today in my private practice. In the past few years, I have also worked with members of the military and their families. I also hold the credential of Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. This certification's focus is on folks with disabilities to include traumatic brain injury. I have experience addressing problems related to disorders such as depression, anxiety, addictions, domestic violence, relationship issues, as well as issues surrounding life changes and events.
I use an evidence-based approach of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) to help with problem-solving, coping techniques, changing one's thinking/behaviors to identify and recognize thoughts that contribute to behaviors and feelings. Once these are identified we can then identify distorted beliefs and thoughts, challenge them, and create more balanced thoughts which improve choices, and how someone feels about themselves and their environment. In conjunction with focusing on thoughts, behavior modification then challenges the person to make a conscious effort to change negative behaviors to improve their feelings and thoughts.
